When inclement weather prompts the University of Maryland to delay or cancel College Park campus classes, the Robert H. Smith School of Business will follow suit for in-person classes and events held at the College Park campus.
When inclement weather prompts the Universities at Shady Grove to delay or cancel their classes, the Robert H. Smith School of Business will follow suit for in-person classes and events held at the Shady Grove/Rockville campus.
The status of classes and events held at Baltimore and the Washington, D.C. campuses will be determined by Smith School administrators. The essential deciding factor is the safety of our commuting faculty, staff, students and visitors.
In most cases, our online classes (MBA and MS) will be held as scheduled when a UMD campus closure is announced. A confirmation email will be sent by the Masters Programs Office or the instructor when a UMD notification indicates that online classes are cancelled.
The Masters Programs Office will notify students of closings and delays via email to their UMD email account.
The ideal plan is to post notices about delays or cancellations of in-person day classes and events by 6:00 a.m. and for evening in-person classes and events by 4:00 p.m. Please note that storms are often unpredictable and can cause difficulty in making a decision by a specific time.
There is a possibility that the College Park campus will be open, but the Baltimore, Shady Grove/Rockville or Washington D.C. campus will be closed and vice versa. Please monitor your UMD emails for updates on delays or cancellations at each campus.
Students and faculty should use their best judgment when traveling during inclement weather.
