The Smith School suite is located at 801 W. Baltimore St. in suite 100 and is over 14,000 square feet. It is comprised of four classrooms, four offices, seven breakout rooms, a conference room, computer work stations with printing capability, and a lounge area.

Students must present a picture ID card to the Security Desk upon entrance to the building.  

Parking

Parking is available in the BioPark Garage at 1 N. Poppleton Street, as well as on-street, metered parking.

0-1 hour $5.00*
1-2 hours $10.00
2-24 hours $15.00

*Student rate after 4:00 pm on weekdays and on weekends is $2.00. Students must validate their parking ticket in the MPO suite in order to receive the $2.00 rate.

BioPark Garage Parking Hours

Monday - Friday: 6:00am to 11:00pm
Saturday: 7:00am - 7:00pm
Sunday*: Closed
*When a Sunday class is scheduled, the garage will be open according to the class schedule.

Eduroam is a secure, worldwide, roaming internet access service for UMD students, faculty and staff. This access allows wireless printing to the high-speed printer(s) in the suite.

Network: eduroam
Username: DirectoryID@umd.edu (ex. jsmith@umd.edu)
Password: Directory password

DirectoryID and Passwords are used for UMD applications such as Testudo, Canvas, vSmith. Don't know your Directory ID username and/or password or wish to reset your password?

Or complete the below steps:

  1. Go to http://setup.wireless.umd.edu and follow the instructions for UMD Students, Faculty, and Staff
  2. Choose “Auto-launch, browser must contain Java plugin” - it is the default
  3. Login with your Directory ID and Password 
  4. Login with your Eduroam account DirectoryID@umd.edu and Password
  5. Choose “Eduroam” in your wireless list

Since this is the eduroam service provided by UM-Baltimore, you may see a second request for your login and password.

Once you’ve set up eduroam and your login, this will be your default, automatic wireless service whenever you’re here at the Baltimore campus.

Wireless Printing - Windows

Steps to Add Baltimore Printer 1 and/or Baltimore Printer 2 (Windows 7) after connecting to eduroam:

  • Click on Start and Open Devices and Printers
  • Click on Add a printer
  • Click on Add a local printer
  • Click on Create a new port
  • Select Standard TCP/IP Port
  • Click Next
  • In the Hostname or IP address field, enter: 134.192.14.151 (Baltimore Printer 2)
  • Make sure that Query the printer and automatically select the driver to use is checked
  • Click Next (This might take a few seconds)
    (HP LaserJet P4014P/4015 PCL 6 Printer should be detected)
  • Click Next (This might take a few seconds)
    (HP LaserJet P4014P/4015 PCL 6 Printer should be installed)
  • Click the "Do not share this printer" radio button
  • Click Next
  • Print a test page (Optional)
  • Click Finish - You should see an icon for the printer in with a green check mark next to it.
  • You’re done!

To add Baltimore Printer 1, repeat the above instructions and using 134.192.14.169 in the Hostname or IP address field.

Wireless Printing - Mac

Steps to Add Baltimore Printer 1 and/or Baltimore Printer 2 (Mac) after connecting to eduroam:

  • Click the Apple in the top left corner, then click System Preferences
  • Click Print & Scan
  • Click the Plus Sign (+)
  • Click the IP tab with the globe icon
  • Make sure LPD is selected for protocol. For the IP Address field, enter the IP address of the desired printer.
    Baltimore Printer 1: 134.192.14.169 or Baltimore Printer 2: 134.192.14.151
  • Enter the name for the printer: "Baltimore Printer 1" or "Baltimore Printer 2"
  • Enter the location: "Baltimore"
  • Be sure to check the duplex option when the final window appears

Repeat steps to add the second printer.

Computer Lab and Bloomberg Terminal

Students have access to five computer workstations, including a Bloomberg Terminal. The workstations will require students to log-in using their Directory ID and password.

Facilities at the BioPark

Team Rooms

Team rooms are available for use by students to discuss coursework in a collaborative environment within the Smith School suite.

Food Options

Colala Grind is to the right of the lobby as you walk into the building at 801 West Baltimore St.

The UMB Campus Center is located at 621 W. Lombard St and is about a half-mile walk from the BioPark.

There are vending machines available in the BioPark Building II lobby.

Gym Memberships

In order to receive access to the recreation facilities, a membership must be purchased.

Membership to URecFit at the SMC Campus Center on 621 W. Lombard St can be purchased for one week, one month, 3 months or one year. Primary Group membership rates apply for Smith School students.

University Maryland College Park Rec Well membership cost for the fall or spring is $150/semester (Spring includes winter term). During the summer, current students may purchase a membership at a discounted rate of $30 per session in which they are not registered.

Students will have access to both facilities once membership at either campus is purchased.

Libraries

Students may take advantage of the University of Maryland, Baltimore campus libraries for group work, research and/or studying. Both libraries are located within blocks of the BioPark. A Student ID is required.

The Thurgood Marshall Law Library is located at 500 W. Baltimore Street. The Health Sciences and Human Services Library is located at 601 W. Lombard Street.
