Flex MBA New Student Checklist - Complete Upon Admission to Flex MBA Program!

Fall '23 BUSI600 Fundamentals of Business Decision Making (Opening Residency)
This two-credit course will take place on Saturday and Sunday, August 19 & 20, 2023 at Van Munching Hall at the College Park campus. Students are expected to have completed their pre-skills coursework prior to attending Opening Residency in order to successfully participate in academic sessions.
- A Pre-Arrival email will be sent the first week of August 2023.
Students must attend both days and complete the pre-skills in order to receive credit. Note that BUSI600 is a part of your MBA curriculum. Each day of Residency will be held from 8:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. A final schedule will be posted in the course Canvas site in early August 2023.
- How to Access Pre-Skills:
- Upon registration in early June, allow 24 hours to pass before accessing ELMS Canvas (see more information under Technology). The Canvas course site for BUSI600 should populate under your courses. The faculty will publish this course site in June and you will immediately be able to start your Pre-Skills.
- Any questions about Pre-Skills should be addressed via Canvas with Professor Mary Beth Furst directly.
If you are unable to attend on August 19 & 20, please notify your campus advisor as students who do not complete BUSI600 in August 2023 will be expected to complete this course in January 2024.

The “Enterprise Learning Management System” or “ELMS” or "Canvas" is a web platform that allows students to receive course syllabi, assignments, and other important information; it also provides professors with analytical data about their courses and students, including but not limited to the time that students logged in, and which activities students participated in
A virtual computer lab that provides essential software in one convenient place for Smith School students, faculty and staff, and can be accessed at any time, from any computer, anywhere in the world
Virtual Private Networking (VPN)
Students may directly connect to the University of Maryland network through a Virtual Private Networking (VPN) connection once their Directory ID is established
Software products are available for download and use by University of Maryland students through agreements managed by the Division of IT between the university and software companies; the software download web site is known as TERPware and it allws students to download software after registration for courses
UMD students have unlimited access to LinkedIn Learning, an online library of instructional videos covering the latest software, creative, and business skills; students can sign in with their Directory ID.
This program allows registered students, faculty, and staff of the University of Maryland, College Park to purchase Apple and Dell computers at or below standard discounts, and receive substantial added benefits in technical support and warranty protection. Students are able to take advantage of these discounts after registering.
Residency Reclassification
Students whose residency classification (in-state or out-of-state) is incorrect in their admission letter should contact Residency Reclassification Services. In-state and out-of-state residency classifications affects student tuition whenever a class is taken at College Park.
Immunizatons/Health Center
Students who do not complete their immunization requirements on time will have their accounts blocked for Winter and Spring 2024 registration. The Masters Programs Office staff cannot remove blocks placed by other departments. Learn more about the immunizations and health insurance requirement.
Note: Please do not send your campus advisor your confidential medical records. The Health Center also cannot accept any documents that are sent to the Health Center via email.
