Smith School students are required to comply with University of Maryland policies and procedures, including those from the Office of Student Conduct. Understanding and following the University of Maryland Code of Academic Integrity is critical for academic success.
This tutorial was developed in partnership with the Office of Student Conduct and is designed to educate incoming Smith School masters students about the tenets of the Code of Academic Integrity. The purpose is to help students make informed decisions to always do academically-honest work and to avoid the risk of cheating, fabrication, facilitation, or plagiarism. All University of Maryland students are expected to uphold the standards of academic integrity, and also encourage peers to do the same.
Tutorial Objectives:
- Describe the Code of Academic Integrity, including the Student Honor Pledge.
- Identify the role of the Office of Student Conduct, including the Referral Process for students caught violating the Code of Academic Integrity.
- Identify Academic Dishonesty, including what could count as a Code of Academic Integrity violation, and how to avoid it.
