Tableau is a widely used data analytics and visualization tool. Examples of Tableau visualizations are available at https://public.tableau.com/en-us/s/gallery.
Expected Learning Outcomes:
- Understand the advanced features of the Tableau interface
- Create advanced interactive graphs and dashboards in Tableau
Prerequisite: To be successful in this workshop, students must already know the following in Tableau: 1) Understand the difference between dimensions and measures, 2) Understand how to use rows, columns, and marks card, 3) Be able to connect to data sources, 4) Be able to create basic graphs: bar charts, line graphs, tables, and 5) Be able to create dashboards.
Software: Prior to the workshop, you should install the required software and test its operation. Tableau is available at no cost for academic use; visit http://www.tableau.com/academic/students to download the software. You must use your University of Maryland email address to be eligible for the download. Please allow 1-2 business days for your academic license to be approved. Alternatively, Tableau is available on vSmith.
