Registration Instructions

Students who began the MQF program in Fall ’23 and are scheduled to graduate in May ’25 should register for 8 credits total for Spring ’24. Students completing the program on an F1 visa must enroll in at least 4 credits (2 courses) per term. The standard curriculum is set up to be completed in 4 semesters. Students interested in accelerating to complete the program in 3 semesters should contact their academic advisor.

- A grade of B+ or higher in quantitative methods courses (for example, BUFN 640)

Global Equity Fund

1st year students – Go to https://www.rhsmith.umd.edu/funds/global-equity-fund to learn more about the Smith School’s Global Equity Fund. This course is a 2-part course that meets for the duration of the academic year. The application to participate in GEF for the 2024 – 2025 academic year will open in Spring ’24.

2nd year students – If you are part of the GEF team for Spring ’24, the MPO team will register you directly for this course, which will meet on Tuesdays from 6:25 – 10:00 pm throughout the spring semester.

F1/J1 Visa students - If you are interested in taking this course, set an appointment with your advisor prior to signing up to discuss your potential course schedule for the upcoming semesters.

Alternate Finance Courses: When Spring registration opens, MQF students will only be permitted to register for BUFN courses. To request a course outside of the Finance program, email fgirmay@umd.edu 

Independent Study Courses: Accelerating students interested in participating in an Independent Study course for either Term C or Term D should email fgirmay@umd.edu by December 11, 2023. All paperwork for Independent Study courses for Term C or Term D must be submitted by January 8, 2024—Independent Study paperwork submitted after this date will not be considered.
