REGISTRATION BLOCKS
All students should check their registration status for accuracy. The Office of the Registrar recommends students visit Testudo to verify their status. To do so, go to Testudo, select “Appointment and Registration Status.” You will then be prompted to log in with your Directory ID and Password. The Masters Programs Office does not have access to view blocks and does not have the authority to remove blocks placed on your record by other University offices. Please contact your campus advisor if there is a block of your registration. You are responsible for checking your account for blocks and getting them cleared prior to the start of registration. The Masters Programs Office does not hold any class space for students who experience blocks.
INDIVIDUAL COURSE BLOCKS
Each course at the 600 and 700 level has a restriction. Typically, these restrictions are a combination of credit limits and degree programs. (For example, an MBA elective that is restricted to second year students would have a minimum credit requirement of approximately 21 credits. Since on-track first year MBA students have less than 18 credits, they would be restricted from taking this course. On the other hand, 600-level courses would have a maximum of approximately 21 credits, so second year students (who typically have 26-29+ credits completed) would be restricted from these courses.) When this block is encountered, the system will state: "you have not met course selection restrictions." If you encounter this block, you should first verify that you should be allowed to take this course. If you determine that you are eligible, please get in touch with your campus advisor so we can look into the situation.
If you receive a message stating the course is non-standard, hit enter to bypass (most MBA and MS courses are non-standard).
STUDENT BLOCKS
Some of the common problems that are encountered in the registration process involve blocks that are placed on your student record. The Office of Student Financial Services and Cashiering, Graduate School, International Student and Scholar Services, the Health Center, and other university departments can activate these blocks. Problems may include: missing transcripts, immunization records that have not cleared, overdue bills, writing test not completed (international students), parking violations, etc. It is your responsibility to be sure that records are complete and up to date. The most common block for first year students occurring during the Spring registration process is from the Health Center. We recommend that any first year student who has not cleared his/her immunization records, should call Tina Thorburn immediately at (301) 314-8120 to get this resolved.
Note To All Fall 2015 Admits
Please review your admission letter from the University of Maryland Graduate School and note if it specifically mentions they were missing official transcripts (or related documentation) at the time the letter was sent. The Graduate School will place a registration block on your record until the request is fulfilled. If not lifted, this block will prevent you from registering for the Spring 2016 semester. This block does not appear on the "Appointment and Registration Status" screen but can be found on your admission letter from the Graduate School (not the Smith School's admission letter).
