Housing / Resources for College Park Students

Housing arrangements have been listed as the biggest challenge before the start of school. Please keep in mind that the University of Maryland, College Park student body consists of over 40,000 undergraduate and graduate students, all of whom require housing. Therefore, College Park is a very competitive area for students in need of housing.

The University's Off-Campus Housing Services website has a number of resources to assist graduate student secure housing, both on- and off-campus.

  • The Off-Campus Housing Resouces guide is a great place to start your search. It provides information on Off-Campus Housing Complexes, a housing search checklist, and a variety of topics to keep in mind as you search for housing.
  • The OCH Database is the most comprehensive resource offered by Off-Campus Housing Services. Students can register and search for available housing and connect with potential roommates.
  • Watch the OCH Housing Webinar from April 2023 to learn more about housing options.

Some of the most popular neighborhoods Smith students choose to live in include:

  • College Park/Hyattsville (Maryland)
  • Silver Spring (Maryland)
  • Columbia Heights (Washington DC)
  • Rockville/Bethesda (Maryland)
  • Northwest DC

Please note: The university does not take responsibility for matching students with roommates.
