MS in Management Studies

Fall 2026 Cohort 

The MS in Business and Management curriculum is 30 credits. The schedule is subject to change. 

Students wishing to complete the program in 2 semesters should contact the advisor, Kim Gonzalez, for assistance. 

Students join the MS in Management Studies program with a variety of technical skills and educational and professional backgrounds. The resources below have been compiled to assist incoming new MS in Management Studies students with preparing for their fall coursework.

BUMO606: Making Better Business Decisions with Data

Students taking BUMO606 will need to develop or refresh their understanding of basic statistics and coding in R before the first session. To help students prepare and (re-) learn this material, Professor Starr has requested that students review an initial assessment which will cover these topics, and then answer two quizzes—one by hand and one in R.

Instructions:

• Save "tutoring.csv" to be used for assignment 
• Open “MiM_PreSession1_Assessment.pdf”
  • Follow the instructions to download R and RStudio.
  • Make sure you can open and render the Quarto document “MiM_PreSession1_Assessment.qmd” (this will reproduce the pdf you already have and a corresponding html file).
  • Review the full document and perform the practice questions.
• Open the "MiM_PreSession1_RQuiz_template.qmd" file. 
  • Fill out the quiz using RStudio, render it, and submit the resulting pdf with responses.
• Open the "MiM_Pression1_QuizbyHand.pdf" file. 
  • Fill out the answers by hand and submit the pdf with the answers.

The quizzes will be graded and contribute to the final grade in this class.

HOW TO REGISTER

Directory ID and password must be set BEFORE registration; see Directions for Setting Up Directory ID and Password.

Step 1: Log-in to Testudo

Go to: http://www.testudo.umd.edu/
Click on: Registration (Drop/Add)
Enter your Directory ID and Password
Select: Fall 2026

Step 2: Add Track of Required Courses

Enter the following information in the "Registration (Drop/Add)" screen of Testudo. Testudo will not allow students to register for courses individually. Registering for the course track will enroll students in multiple required courses at once. Please select your track based on if you plan to complete your degree in 2 semesters or in 3 semesters.

Step 3: Confirm Courses

Click "View Schedule" to confirm registration based on the schedule below.

COURSE SCHEDULE

Courses are completed in 7-week sessions referred to as "terms". Term A meets from August through October, and Term B meets from October through December. For specific dates, review the Academic Calendar.

Elective course option:

The MiM program requires 4 elective courses; the above course tracks include 1 fall elective for the 2-semester options. If you would like to switch the elective you have, please email your advisor, Kim Gonzalez, at kimgonz@umd.edu. Below are the 3 elective courses offered in the Fall 2026 semester.
**If you are an international student doing the 3-semester plan DO NOT register for BMGT758Z now, you must take it next fall.
