  • 1st year students – This course is a 2-part course that meets for the duration of the academic year. The application to participate in GEF for the 2027 – 2028 academic year will open in Spring ’27. Additional information about GEF is available at www.rhsmith.umd.edu/funds/global-equity-fund.

    • F1/J1 Visa students - Students attending class on a visa who are interested in GEF must set an appointment with their advisor, Feven Girmay, to discuss curriculum for fulltime compliance. It is advised that students enroll in only 8 credits for the spring semester in order to have enough credits left for upcoming semesters while taking GEF.

  • 2nd year students – Students who are part of the GEF team for Spring ’27 will be registered directly for this course by the MPO team; it is scheduled for Thursdays from 6:25 – 10:00 pm.

Alternate Finance Courses: Master of Finance students have permission to register for BUFN courses. To request a course outside of the Master of Finance program, email Feven Girmay (fgirmay@umd.edu). Limited to 6 max credits.

Independent Study Courses: Accelerating students interested in participating in an Independent Study course should email Feven Girmay (fgirmay@umd.edu) by December 7, 2026. All paperwork for Independent Study courses for Term C or Term D must be submitted by January 4, 2027; paperwork submitted after this date will not be considered.
