REGISTRATION APPOINTMENTS
Registration Appointments start over a two-day period, depending on how many credits students have completed as of the end of Summer II 2015. Registration will open for MBA and MS/MFin students that have 15 or more credits completed at 12:30pm on Tuesday, October 27th. Registration will open for MBA and MS/MFin students that have 14 or fewer credits completed at 12:30pm on Wednesday, October 28th. Registration appointments will be broken into groups based on the number of completed credits in the program through the end of Summer II 2015.
All students should check their appointment and registration status for accuracy. The Office of the Registrar recommends students visit www.testudo.umd.edu/ to verify their registration time. To do so, go to Testudo, select “Appointment and Registration Status.” You will then be prompted to log in with your Directory ID and Password. If your correct appointment is not listed by Wednesday, October 21st, or if you do not have an appointment on this screen, contact your campus advisor by Friday, October 23rd, which will allow time to make changes to your appointment. It is your responsibility to review your appointment prior to this date as there is limited time in which to make appointment adjustments. Students with no appointment who fail to notify the Masters Programs Office by Friday, October 23rd will be able to register starting 7:30 am on Thursday, October 29th. The Masters Programs Office staff does not hold any class space for students with incorrect or no appointments, so please verify your appointments as soon as possible.
REGISTRATION DEADLINE
Courses become available to graduate students outside of the Smith School on Wednesday, December 16, 2015. If you are unable to register for required courses prior to December 16th, you will need to contact your campus advisor by Monday, December 14th or your seat may be forfeited. When communicating with your campus advisor, please explain why you will be unable to register by December 16th.
REGISTRATION BLOCKS
To check for blocks, go to www.testudo.umd.edu/ and follow the same log-in instructions as outlined above under “Registration Appointments”. The Masters Programs Office staff does not have access to view blocks and does not have the authority to remove blocks placed on your record by other University offices. The Office the Registrar is the best contact if there is a block of your registration. You are responsible for checking your account for blocks and getting them cleared prior to the start of registration. The Masters Programs Office does not hold any class space for students who experience blocks.
INDIVIDUAL COURSE BLOCKS
Each course at the 600 and 700 level has a restriction. Typically, these restrictions are a combination of credit limits and degree programs. (For example, an MBA elective that is restricted to second year students would have a minimum credit requirement of approximately 21 credits. Since on-track first year MBA students have less than 18 credits, they would be restricted from taking this course. On the other hand, 600-level courses would have a maximum of approximately 21 credits, so second year students (who typically have 26-29+ credits completed) would be restricted from these courses.) When this block is encountered, the system will state: "you have not met course selection restrictions." If you encounter this block, you should first verify that you should be allowed to take this course. If you determine that you are eligible, please get in touch with your campus advisor so we can look into the situation.
If you receive a message stating the course is non-standard, hit enter to bypass (most MBA and MS courses are non-standard).
STUDENT BLOCKS
Some of the common problems that are encountered in the registration process involve blocks that are placed on your student record. The Office of Student Financial Services and Cashiering, Graduate School, International Student and Scholar Services, the Health Center, and other university departments can activate these blocks. Problems may include: missing transcripts, immunization records that have not cleared, overdue bills, writing test not completed (international students), parking violations, etc. It is your responsibility to be sure that records are complete and up to date. The most common block for first year students occurring during the Spring registration process is from the Health Center. We recommend that any first year student who has not cleared his/her immunization records, should call Tina Thorburn immediately at (301) 314-8120 to get this resolved.
REGISTRATION ISSUES
If any issues occur the day of registration students should contact their campus advisor. The first week of registration is extremely busy with telephone calls and emails, so your patience is appreciated.
