The term Artificial Intelligence (AI) was coined in 1956 and has spurred advances in computing including expert systems, search algorithms, machine learning, robotics, language understanding & generation and image understanding & generation. While AI has been plagued by falling short of expectations in the past, advances since 2010 in affordability and ubiquity of compute power, advances in underlying AI algorithms and the availability of data has spurred a new generation of AI capabilities. AI has perhaps now tipped where it is difficult to conceive of competitive advantage without leveraging AI.
