Amidst recent high-profile corporate scandals, it is becoming increasingly important to reflect on and understand business ethics and importantly, to strive to be an ethical leader. This class is designed to help you reflect about your own values, to give you a substantive background about ethical pitfalls, and to specifically highlight the unexpected ways in which the work context that we operate in can affect our decisions and behaviors in ways that sometimes detach us from our own values.
The specific learning objectives for this course are:
Understand the ways in which our moral choices can be affected by the context in ways that can be detrimental to us as individuals as well to the organization and the society as a whole.
Encourage discussion and critical thinking about how we want to live our lives as reflected in the way we behave in organizations.
Deal with business decisions with moral implications, in particular those who involve managing trade-offs.
Learn from classmates and their points of view to appreciate the depth and complexity of ethical issues at the workplace.
