BUSO700 Fundamentals of Business (also known as Opening Residency) is a two-credit course that will take place on Saturday and Sunday, August 16 and 17, 2025 in person at Van Munching Hall on the College Park campus.
- The last day to register for BUSO700 is 11:59 p.m. ET on Monday, August 11, 2025.
- Students will receive arrival details and other important information in the summer.
- Students can expect to be in person approximately 8:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. ET each day during this weekend. A final schedule will be posted in the BUSO700 course site in early August 2025.
- Students must attend both days in order to receive credit for BUSO700. BUSO700 is a required part of the MBA curriculum.
- There will be pre-work assigned by the BUSO700 course faculty, Dr. Paulo Prochno, which must be completed in advance of the Opening Residency weekend sessions.
- There will also be pre-skills modules in Math, Excel, Citations, and Academic Integrity assigned through the MBA Pre-Skills Fall 2025 course site, managed by Associate Dean of MBA Programs Dr. Rosellina Ferraro. These modules must be completed by August 15, 2025, and are required to receive credit for BUSO700.
- The dress code for the weekend is business casual attire.
- It is recommended that any travel-related purchases required to attend Opening Residency be refundable should inclement weather or other unforeseen circumstances prevent an in-person Opening Residency event. The weather in the Greater Washington area can be difficult to predict but the Masters Programs Office team will monitor all weather forecasts closely. All notices regarding Opening Residency will be sent to students at their UMD email address. Every effort will be made to revert to a virtual event due to inclement weather by EOD Monday, August 11.
