Orientation Parking and Directions

Students who plan to drive to campus for the academic year need to purchase a student commuter parking permit. For more details, please see the College Park Parking Permit Information.

Anyone with or without a current DOTS permit may park as follows during Orientation (January 22, 2024):

  • Lots 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 9, 11 and 16.
    • Faculty/staff lots and visitor parking are enforced as usual. Restrictions for athletics and special events still apply.

Directions to Lot 1b from Adelphi Road

  • Turn onto Campus Drive and continue through one traffic light towards the traffic circle.
  • Go three-quarters around the traffic circle and turn into Lot 1b.
  • Park and follow the signs directing you via the sidewalks to Van Munching Hall.

     

Directions to Lot 1b from Route 1 (heading south from I-495)

  • Take Route 1 south to the ramp onto MD Route 193 West - University Boulevard.
  • Go right, down the ramp, and continue on Route 193 West - University Boulevard to the third light.
  • Get in the far left lane and turn left onto Adelphi Road.
  • Turn left onto Campus Drive and follow directions above to Lot 1b.

     

Directions to Lot 1b from Route 1 (heading north from DC)

  • Head north on Route 1 (from DC).
  • Turn left onto Guilford Road.
  • Follow Guilford Road which turns into Mowatt Lane.
  • Continue on Mowatt Lane to the traffic circle (Passing the Parking Garage on your right).
  • Go halfway around the traffic circle and turn right into Lot 1b.

     

Directions to Mowatt Lane Garage from Adelphi Road

  • Following directions to Lot 1b above, continue on Campus Drive through one-quarter of the traffic circle and turn right onto Mowatt Lane.
  • Follow Mowatt Lane through a stop sign.
  • Turn left into Mowatt Lane Garage.
  • Visitor Parking (pay to park) is available on the first level of the garage in the numbered spaces
  • Visitor Parking (pay to park) is also available in the lot adjacent to Mowatt Lane Garage. 
  • Campus permit holders may park in Lot U2 during designated times (typically after 4 p.m. Monday-Friday and all day Saturday and Sunday); however, students are responsible for confirming restrictions on posted signage. Do not park on levels marked Lot 19. Please refer here for more information.

*NOTE: Disabled spaces in all parking garages and the Paint Branch Lot must be paid at the Digital Pay Stations. All of the other disabled parking spots around campus do not require payment.

The College Park Metro Station is located on the Green Line. Please visit the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority's website to find useful information on Metrobus, Metrorail, the Metrochek program (including Smart Benefits), and even a Ride Guide, which will list transportation options, and current fare charges, from an origination point to final destination.
