6/24 - Weekly Email From the Masters Programs Office

Dear incoming Master of Finance student,

As a reminder, all students should refer to the Incoming Student Website as a primary source of information.

Pre-Skills Requirement for BUSI640

There is a pre-skills requirement for BUSI640 for all finance students. Please visit the Pre-Skills Requirement page on the Incoming Student Website for details on how to complete this requirement. The pre-skills requirement must be completed by August 23rd. Questions about grading or how the pre-skills course will be used in the Smith School course should be directed to Laurent Frésard, Assistant Professor of Finance, at lfresard@rhsmith.umd.edu.

Course Waivers

I would like to remind you that finance students have the opportunity to waive BUSI 610: Financial Accounting, and/or BUSI 640: Financial Management.

  • BUSI 610: This course was not included as part of your track registration. All finance students who have previously taken financial accounting and performed well are encouraged to apply for a BUSI 610 course waiver. If you do not receive permission to waive this course, you must plan to add this to your Fall 2015 course schedule and I will provide you with instructions for how to do so in early August.
  • BUSI 640: This course was included as part of your track registration. If you register for and pass the waiver examination administered on August 17th, I will provide you with instructions to drop the course.

Additional information and instructions are posted on the Course Waiver page.

Student Billing & Payment Information
Student bills will start to be generated in mid-July. The University of Maryland Office of Student Financial Services and Cashiering handles student account and billing information; a link is provided from the
Pay Your Bill section of the Incoming Student Website. Tuition rates are posted in the Financial Information section of the Incoming Student Website. Bills must be paid according to published Tuition Due Dates and may be paid by charge, cash, or check.
