Canvas
Most Smith School professors utilize Canvas (also known as ELMS-Canvas); through Canvas students can:
- Receive class announcements and assignments
- Submit coursework
- View course syllabi
- Communicate with professors and classmates
Canvas is available at http://www.elms.umd.edu. Students can log into Canvas with their Directory ID and password. Canvas help can be obtained through the University of Maryland Division of Information Technology at 301-405-1500 or by emailing itsupport@umd.edu. It is highly encouraged that students bookmark the Canvas website.
Testudo
Testudo is not only the name of the University of Maryland mascot, but it is also the website (http://www.testudo.umd.edu) for many administrative tasks performed throughout the University. Testudo is part of the Office of the Registrar’s website where students can:
- Register for classes
- Check Schedule of Classes and course information
- Order official transcripts
- Access unofficial transcripts
- Apply for graduation and check diploma status
- Register to vote in the state of Maryland
- Access Student Financial Services
- Access Financial Aid
Textbooks
The best time to order books and course packs is a few weeks before classes begin. Most textbook assignments are not posted until January, so please do not worry if you have a course that is listed without a textbook.
Students can check for assigned textbooks and materials by accessing course syallbi on Canvas. Syllabi should be published on Canvas no later than 2 weeks prior to the first day of class and will list any required course materials.
The UMD Student Bookstore may email you to purchase your books directly prior to the start of classes, but please wait until you are certain based on the course syllabus or your faculty's recommendation.
University of Maryland option for purchasing textbooks:
University Book Center
Adele H. Stamp Student Union Building
College Park, MD 20742

Course Packs: Harvard Business School Publishing (HBSP)
Course packs are supplemental materials not published in book form and may include: case studies, news articles and additional readings. Typically course packs are available through Harvard Business School Publishing (HBSP). Instructions on how to purchase a course pack will be provided in the course syllabus.
Notes
- Seven week courses that meet in the second half of the semester will likely not post syllabi and textbook/course packet information until closer to the class start date.
- You are welcome to compare prices through other internet book sellers, but be careful that you are getting the correct book (and edition). Using the ISBN# is highly recommended for this purpose.
