Tuition and fees are subject to change and annual increases. Although changes in fees are ordinarily announced in advance, the University reserves the right to make such changes without previous announcement.

Masters students are charged on a per credit basis.

Any student coded as a non-resident will pay the out-of-state tuition rate and applicable College Park fees for courses taken at College Park and through external agreements (Consortium, Inter-Instiutional, etc).

Smith MBA and Masters students taking UMD courses outside of the Smith School will now be subject to added per-credit differential tuition in addition to the base-rate tuition of those non-Smith courses.

For example:

A typical graduate level course that uses the university tuition rates would be charged the following:

$828.00 + $803.00 = $1,631.00 per credit - for Maryland Residents

$1,805.00 + $267.50 = $2,072.50 per credit - for Non-Residents

  • I want to enroll in SHIP: Students who do not have existing insurance need to enroll in the school health plan. Charges will be assessed on the student account for this insurance. Click here to purchase/enroll SHIP

Students wishing to challenge their out-of-state classification may do so by filing a timely "Petition of In-State Status Form" with the Office of the Registrar. Informational sessions are typically held at the beginning of the semester. The deadline for meeting the 12-month requirement for in-state status and for submitting a petition and supporting documentation is the end of the schedule adjustment period for the semester in which you wish to be classified as in-state. Retroactive in-state status is not granted.

It is imperative that students obtain a petition as soon as possible. Late petitions will not be accepted. The volume of petitions for review of eligibility may necessitate a delay in completing the review process, so it is important to apply early. In most cases, a final decision will be made within 90 days of receipt of a complete petition. For residency self-evaluation forms, walk-in hours, or other information, please contact:
