Course Materials and Resources

Canvas (http://www.elms.umd.edu; also known as ELMS-Canvas) is used for all course management, including:

  • Class announcements and assignments
  • Coursework submissions
  • Posting course syllabi
  • Communicating with professors and classmates

Students can log into Canvas with their Directory ID and password. Canvas help can be obtained through the University of Maryland Division of Information Technology at 301-405-1500 or itsupport@umd.edu

Testudo (http://www.testudo.umd.edu) is not only the name of the University of Maryland mascot, but it is also the website for many administrative tasks performed throughout the University. Testudo is part of the Office of the Registrar’s website where students can:

  • Register for classes
  • Check Schedule of Classes and course information
  • Order official transcripts
  • Access unofficial transcripts
  • Apply for graduation and check diploma status
  • Register to vote in the state of Maryland
  • Access Student Financial Services
  • Access Financial Aid

The best time to order books or course packs is a few weeks before classes begin since that's when instructors will post additional information. Students can check for assigned textbooks and materials by accessing course syallbi on Canvas. Syllabi should be published on Canvas no later than 2 weeks prior to the first day of class and will list any required course materials. Seven week courses that meet in the second half of the semester will likely not post syllabi and textbook/course packet information until closer to the class start date.

The University Book Center can be used to purchase books, or other internet book sellers. When purchasing books, be careful to get the correct book (and edition) by matching the ISBN#.

Course packs are supplemental materials not published in book form and may include: case studies, news articles and additional readings. Typically course packs are available through Harvard Business School Publishing (HBSP). Instructions on how to purchase any needed course packs will be provided in the course syllabus.
