Good Afternoon,

This final summer email provides important details about 2015 Evening and Weekend MBA Orientation and Campus night. As we approach the start of classes, please review the Pre-Program Checklist on Networth to ensure you have completed all the necessary tasks for a smooth start this fall.

2015 Evening and Weekend MBA Orientation

Orientation will be held on Saturday, August 15th in Van Munching Hall on the College Park campus. A detailed schedule of activities will be distributed at registration. Breakfast and registration begins at 8:30am with welcoming remarks kicking off promptly at 9:00am. Activities will conclude at 5:30pm.

Metro Shuttle:
For those coming to orientation by Metrorail, a campus shuttle will depart from the College Park Metro Station at 8:15, 8:30 and 8:45. The University Shuttle will have “CHARTER” posted on its forward display so you may identify the appropriate vehicle. At the conclusion of the day, we have arranged for only one returning Shuttle to the Metro Station that will depart at 5:45pm from Van Munching Hall.

Free weekend-only parking is available in Lot 1b* which is approximately 3-5 minute walk to Van Munching Hall. 

Please note the main directions to campus guide you to the Mowatt Lane Parking Garage which costs $5 for the day – visitor parking is available only on the top level, in numbered spots. Pay stations are located by the elevators.

What to bring
You do not need to bring anything with you to Orientation. We will be providing breakfast starting at 8:30am and lunch later in the day.

What to wear
You should dress in business professional attire. 

DC Weekend Campus Orientation

On Saturday, August 22nd you will have the opportunity to learn about your campus, network with your classmates, and hear from your faculty director, MPO on-site staff members, and your career coach. Check in for registration and lunch starting at 1:30pm and programming beginning at 2:00pm.

What to bring
Laptop, binder you receive at Orientation and student ID

What to wear
You should dress in business casual attire.

Parking
Parking is available in the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center's subterranean parking garage. Guests and attendees should allow themselves extra time as the lots are secure and all guests are screened upon entry. After 5:00 PM and on weekends there is a flat rate of $13.00.

Weekly Checklist Task Reminders:

  • Submit immunization paperwork
  • Register for Fall classes
  • Pay Fall Tuition bill
  • Purchase textbooks and course packets
  • Attend Orientation and Campus Night

Optional:

Smith Sunset Cruise
Join your fellow Smith Community for a scenic luxury cruise around DC from 8:00-11:00PM on Friday August 21st. Boarding begins at 7:30pm, boat departs at 8:00pm. Open Bar, Dinner Buffet, Games, and a DJ are included in your ticket price. An excellent opportunity to Network with Fellow Smith students in a casual environment. Purchase your ticket here.

Community Service Event
Please join us for a day of community service cleaning up and helping prepare one of DC’s Public Schools for the 2015-2016 school year. This volunteer opportunity is open to all incoming students, to serve as a way to get to know each other and network while serving the DC community.  For those interested in participating in this event, please be sure to leave early to attend the mandatory campus day that will begin at 2:00pm at the DC Campus.

*As a reminder, the first sets of pre-skills are due at the beginning of Term B but you might want to get a head start before classes begin. Pre-skill directions can be found here
