The Masters Programs Office (MPO) and the Smith Master Student Association (SMSA) have partnered to offer an online Introduction to Python Workshop led by Smith School alumni Ravi Pandey.

Zoom login information will be sent to registered attendees via email from SMSA the evening prior to the workshop.

Students may direct questions about this workshop to the MPO academic advisor, or to SMSA at smith-club-smsa@umd.edu.

This workshop is subject to cancellation due to low registration.

Expected Learning Outcomes:

  • Learn how to install Python for use on personal computer.
  • Understand fundamental Python programming techniques and tools.
  • Learn to write a function in Python.
  • Understand how to to load, manipulate, and clean data.
  • Understand how to build bar chart, histogram, pie chart, boxplot and scatter plot with single line of code.

Prerequisite & Preparation:

  • This class is offered online, and requires a computer and a strong internet connection.
  • Windows users will need Microsoft Windows 8/10.
  • MAC users will need Mac OS 10+.

  • Data Types – Numeric, String, Dictionaries, Lists, Tuples and Sets
  • If-Else statements

  • Writing your own function
