Introduction to Power BI Workshop

The Masters Programs Office (MPO) and the Smith Master Student Association (SMSA) have partnered to offer an online Introduction to Power BI Workshop instructed by Prashant Kumar. 

Zoom login information will be sent to registered attendees via email from SMSA the evening prior to the workshop.

Expected Learning Outcomes:

• Understand Power BI Desktop.
• Understand how to extract data from various sources and establish connections with Power BI Desktop.
• Understand the role of Query Editor.
• Prepare data visualizations using Power BI utilizing best practices.

Prerequisite & Preparation:

• This class is offered online, and requires a computer and a strong internet connection.
• Windows users will need Microsoft Windows 8/10.
• MAC users will need Mac OS 10+.
• Participants should install Power BI prior to attending the session.

• Connecting to a Data Source
• Query Ribbon
• Clean and Transform your data with Query Editor
• Cleaning irregularly formatted data
• Introduction to visuals in Power BI
• Charts in Power BI
• Matrixes and tables
• Slicers
• Map Visualizations
• Gauges and Single Number Cards
• Modifying colors in charts and visuals
• Page layout and formatting
