The Masters Programs Office (MPO) and the Smith Master Student Association (SMSA) have partnered to offer an online Intermediate Data Science with Python Workshop led by Smith School alumni Ravi Pandey.

Zoom login information will be sent to registered attendees via email from SMSA the evening prior to the workshop.

Students may direct questions about this workshop to SMSA at smith-club-smsa@umd.edu.

This workshop is subject to cancellation due to low registration.

Expected Learning Outcomes:

  • Understand string and date type data in Python
  • Understand how to join multiple datasets together
  • Understand how to build useful plots using seaborn
  • Build a project using Python

Prerequisite & Preparation:

  • This class is offered online, and requires a computer and a strong internet connection.
  • Windows users will need Microsoft Windows 8/10.
  • MAC users will need Mac OS 10+.
  • Participants should have a basic understanding of Python, including an ability to write their own function.

Course Content Includes:

  • Indexing and Selecting
  • Working with text data
  • Working with missing data
  • Merge, join and concatenate
  • Visualize with seaborn
