We are pleased to welcome fellow Terp, Dan Baylog! Baylog will discuss the importance of local news within a community, and the urgency required in reporting facts given the rise of misinformation and disinformation being shared through alternative media channels. He will also share his insight on innovation within a mature industry, the effects of the traditional video consumption ecosystem actively being disrupted, and the government’s role in keeping our communities informed.
Speaker Bio: Baylog is the President and General Manager of WZZM-TV in Grand Rapids, Michigan, a station owned by Tysons, VA-based TEGNA. Baylog joined TEGNA in 2014 as Director of Research and Strategy at WKYC-TV in Cleveland, adding programming to his portfolio in 2015 before also being named Director of Research at WVEC-TV in Norfolk in 2016. Prior to joining TEGNA, Baylog has held positions of increasing responsibility in sales and research at Fox Television Stations and The E.W. Scripps Company in Washington, DC. He has also taught at Kent State University’s School of Journalism & Mass Communications. A native of Parma, Ohio, Baylog holds a bachelor’s degree in Communication from Ohio University and earned his MBA from the Robert H. Smith School of Business at the University of Maryland in 2014. He resides in Ada, Michigan with his wife and four children.
