Dear Students, 

I am pleased to invite you to our lunchtime series highlighting University of Maryland faculty experts. The first event of the fall semester will be on Monday, October 2nd from 1:00 - 2:00pm.

Prof. Amitabh Varshney will join me for a fireside chat over lunch. Prof. Varshney is the interim Vice President of Research for the University of Maryland. He is a Professor of Computer Science and has served as the Director of the University of Maryland Institute for Advanced Computer Studies. Prof. Varshney is an expert in 3D Computer Graphics and Scientific Visualization, including Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality. He has consulted and collaborated with companies such as NVIDIA, Honda, IBM, Daimler Chrysler, General Dynamics, and Reuters. He has been widely recognized with awards and Fellow designations by professional organizations such as IEEE. Prof. Varshney and I will explore the impact of Virtual Reality on businesses in various industries. We will also discuss other technical innovations under development at the University of Maryland, and how they may impact businesses in the future.The lunch will be held from 1:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. on Monday, October 2nd in Executive Dining, Suite 2517.
