- Description: This is a special topics course that focuses on the intersection between business and government. The federal government is the largest employer in the United States, controls more than one in every five dollars spent in terms of GDP, creates contracts and distributes grants totaling hundreds of billions of dollars, and sets public policy. No matter what industry you work in, the federal government affects what you do daily (e.g., labor policy, trade policy). This course will help you develop a better understanding of how the federal government works, what motivates federal decision makers, and how that affects business practice. Through insights from guest speakers who work for the legislative branch, federal agencies, and the private sector, and course lectures, readings, and discussion, students build knowledge about how and what the federal government does and its implications for business strategy.
